The short version

KNOA processes content only when you choose to save or use it, does not sell your data, and does not use your knowledge for advertising.

1. Scope

This Privacy Policy applies to the KNOA website, web application, browser extension and related services (together, the “Service”). It explains what information KNOA handles, why we handle it, when it is shared, and the choices available to you.

By using the Service, you acknowledge the practices described in this policy. Where consent is required, KNOA asks for it at the point where the relevant feature is used.

2. Information we handle

Account and authentication information

When you sign in, we may receive your email address, display name and profile image from the authentication method you choose. We also create session, device and connection credentials needed to keep your account and browser extension securely connected.

Knowledge and content you choose to save

KNOA processes only the content you actively choose to capture, import or create. This may include selected text, surrounding page context, page title, source URL, domain, capture time, personal notes, reading status, knowledge-base destination, uploaded files, questions and conversation history submitted to an AI feature.

Usage and technical information

We may process language settings, device identifiers, extension version, synchronization status, feature events, error information and standard server logs. Optional product analytics can be disabled in KNOA settings or in the browser extension.

Billing and feedback

If you purchase a subscription, our payment processor handles your payment method. KNOA receives subscription status, plan and billing-cycle information, but does not store complete payment-card details. If you send feedback, we store the rating, category and message you provide.

3. How we use information

We use information only to provide, secure and improve the user-facing features of KNOA, including to:

  • save selected content while preserving its original source and context;
  • synchronize captures and knowledge bases across connected devices;
  • generate titles, summaries, tags, answers and other results you request;
  • search, retrieve, organize, archive and delete your saved knowledge;
  • authenticate users, prevent abuse and maintain service reliability;
  • manage subscriptions and respond to support or privacy requests; and
  • understand aggregate feature performance when optional analytics is enabled.

We do not sell personal information. We do not use captured webpage content, notes or questions for targeted advertising, credit scoring or lending decisions.

4. AI-assisted features

When you explicitly request an AI-assisted feature, KNOA may send the minimum relevant content—such as selected text, surrounding context, your question and recent conversation turns—to contracted third-party AI service providers solely to generate the requested result.

This transfer occurs over encrypted connections. AI inputs are not sent to product analytics and are not used by KNOA for advertising. We require service providers to process information only to deliver and secure the requested service, subject to their contractual and legal obligations.

You can continue to use non-AI capture and local organization features without submitting content for AI processing.

5. Browser extension permissions

The KNOA browser extension requests only permissions used by its visible capture and synchronization features:

  • Website access: displays the selection toolbar and reads content only when you choose to save a selection, save a page or ask a question.
  • Storage: keeps captures, notes, preferences and an offline synchronization queue on your device.
  • Tabs and scripting: identifies the source page, opens KNOA or the original source when requested, and makes the capture interface available on supported pages.
  • Alarms: retries pending synchronization after a temporary interruption.
  • Context menus: provides the user-initiated right-click “Save selection to KNOA” action.

KNOA does not monitor every page you visit, record keystrokes, sell browsing activity or execute remotely hosted extension code.

6. When information is shared

We share information only as necessary with service providers that support KNOA’s core operation, such as infrastructure, database, authentication, payment, security and AI-processing providers. They may process data only for the contracted service and are required to protect it.

We may also disclose information when required by applicable law, to protect users and the Service from fraud or security threats, or as part of a merger or acquisition subject to appropriate notice and safeguards. We do not share user data with data brokers or advertising networks.

7. Storage, retention and security

Local extension data remains on your device until you delete it, clear extension storage or uninstall the extension. Cloud captures and account data are retained while your account is active or until you delete the content or request account deletion. Security logs, transaction records and backups may be retained for the limited period required for fraud prevention, service recovery, legal compliance and dispute resolution.

We use HTTPS for data in transit, access controls for production systems and security practices appropriate to the nature of the information. No system is completely secure, but we work to prevent unauthorized access, alteration and disclosure.

8. Your choices and rights

You can review, edit, archive or delete saved knowledge in the KNOA workspace; disconnect the browser extension; disable optional analytics; and revoke account access through your authentication provider.

Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct, export, restrict or delete personal information and to object to or withdraw consent from certain processing. Submit a request through the in-product Feedback entry. We may need to verify account ownership before completing a request.

9. International processing

KNOA and its service providers may process information in countries other than your own. Where required, we rely on contractual and organizational safeguards designed to protect information during international transfers.

10. Children

KNOA is not directed to children under 13, or the minimum age required to consent to online services in their country. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children below that age.

11. Chrome Web Store Limited Use

KNOA’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Information obtained through extension permissions is used only to provide or improve KNOA’s single-purpose, user-facing knowledge capture and retrieval features.

12. Changes and contact

We may update this policy when the Service or legal requirements change. Material changes will be communicated through the Service or this page, and the effective date will be updated.

For privacy questions or requests, use the Feedback entry in KNOA. Chrome Web Store users may also contact the publisher through the support contact shown on the store listing.
